303 Mc Roland
The Song of Roland by W. S. Merwin, A contemporary prose rendering of the great medieval French epic, The Song of Roland is as canonical and significant as the Anglo-Saxon Beowulf. It extols the chivalric ideals in the France of Charlemagne through the exploits of Charlemagne's nephew, the warrior Roland, who fights bravely to his death in a legendary battle. Against the bloody backdrop of the struggle between Christianity and Islam, The Song of Roland remains a vivid portrayal of medieval life, knightly adventure, and feudal politics. The first great literary works of a culture are its epic chronicles, those that create simple hero-figures about whom the imagination of a nation can crystallize, observed V. S. Pritchett. The Song of Roland is animated by the crusading spirit and fortified by national and religious propaganda. This edition features W. S. Merwin's glowing, lyrical translation.
Roland Terry: Master Northwest Architect by Justin Henderson, Every great architect offers an original vision, one that synthesizes and then transcends all that he or she has learned. Roland Terry's career follows that archetypal mode, yet Terry occupies a unique place in the Northwest architectural tradition. The elements that define his originality are subtle, a fusion of classic Northwest Modernist traditions leavened with a warm yet cosmopolitan sophistication, one that grew organically out of his education, his background in the thriving Seattle art and architecture communities of the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, and his experiences while traveling and living abroad. Poised between modern functionalism and rich traditionalism, Roland Terry's work embraces the best of old and new. His body of residential work in Seattle and elsewhere illuminates the subtle depth, power, and completeness of his design talents. He had a matchless skill at integrating his ideas with the needs of his clients, particularly with regard to interior design. As is evident in the book, these are houses made for the ages. Renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly wrote of Terry's work, "whenever I've visited a Roland Terry house it's been like visiting Matisse's chapel or Renoir's studio -- one of those special days that you remember forever". This is not to suggest that Terry's commercial work pales in comparison. On the contrary: from the earliest incarnations of Seattle's Canlis Restaurant in the late 1940s through the myriad restaurants, shops, hotels, and offices designed in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, Terry created a striking and original body of institutional buildings and interiors, including the original Nordstrom flagship store in downtown Seattle, the Half MoonHotel in Montego Bay, Jamaica, the Kahala Hilton (now Mandarin Oriental) Hotel in Honolulu.
Roland MC-303 - Not to be confused with the MC series of MicroComposers by Roland, the MC-303 is the first of a series of synthesizer/drum machine/Sequencer combo instruments by Roland. The MC-303 opened up the "Groovebox" line of inexpensive products in 1996, specifically targeting dance club and house DJ's as well as amateur home musicians. Roland MC-909 - The Roland MC-909 is a groovebox released by Roland in 2002. It is basically an upgrade of previous models like the MC-303 and the MC-505. Roland MC-202 - The MC-202 (Micro-Composer) is a monophonic analog synthesizer/sequencer released by Roland in 1983. It is similar to the TB-303 and SH-101 synthesizers, featuring one voltage-controlled oscillator with simultaneous saw and square/pulse-width waveforms and a resonant -24db filter. Roland TB-303 - The TB-303 is a synthesizer/sequencer produced by the Roland corporation in 1982 and 1983 that had a crucial role in the development of contemporary electronic music. The TB-303 (named for "Transistor Bass") was originally sold to guitarists for bass accompaniment when practising alone, a role in which it failed miserably.
